101 south from Port Angeles
My wife and daughter are "Twilight" fans so my daughter called up and told her mother she should visit "Forks" where the movie was filmed which is about 1 hour west? of Port Angeles on 101. When my wife looked at the mileage finally from Port Angeles and realized it was going to add 2 more hours (there and back) to Port Angeles she said, "I can't justify two extra hours of driving today." So, instead we headed south on 101 towards Olympia, Washington. The good part of this is that you are bypassing all Tacoma and Seattle traffic (which can be like Los Angeles) parts of almost any day. And instead you are driving through mostly rainforests that border the Puget Sound. At several points you can get on ferries if you want to to go to Whidbey Island which has been a location for many movies because of it's beauty. Whidbey Island (like the San Juans) is a very beautiful Island mostly occupied by summer cabins and beautiful trees with beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding countryside with large majestic trees and the ocean sound. Finally, after driving a long time with trees that seemed to touch the sky along the road. Finally at Olympia, Washington you intersect with with Interstate 5 if you are heading south like we were towards Oregon and eventually California.
