Polar Shift?

NOVA: Regarding Earth's Magnetic Field

In watching the above NOVA program from youtube.com I was very interested in what various scientists around the world had to say. For example, Geologist Robert Coe from UCSC has visited a volcanic site in Oregon and has discovered over the last 25 years or so that polar shifts can be discovered on their time lines by drilling core samples and watching the magnetic polarities. During pole shifts the polarities are going different directions indicating that magnetic north was at our south pole or somewhere in between in many cases.

Another scientist studying British sextant sightings recorded in log books of ships the last 300 years was able to take their calculations and find how a magnetic anomaly is growing in the Southern Atlantic ocean that may be indicative of a coming polar shift.

If we are in the beginning of a polar shift (which can last about 2000 to 10,000 years) the magnetic fields of earth will tend to decrease by up to 90% during those times and increase the number of cancer cases causing death by about 100,000 people per year. Also genetic mutation of humans and other species will occur because our magnetosphere won't protect us from Cosmic rays and other radiation.

However, most of us won't live long enough  to be sure that we are witnessing a polar shift or geomagnetic excursion which happen more frequently than polar shifts. However, the one thing that is certain is that the North magnetic pole is increasing in speed every year towards Siberia at present and the Magnetosphere has cracks in it now and is letting more cosmic rays and solar radiation into earth's atmosphere every day.
