Switching from Spironolactone to Eplerenone if you are a man

Both of these are diuretics usually taken once a day in the morning for most people. In my case I'm taking it so that while I'm taking it basically I don't have an Edema on my ankles feet or legs while I have been taking Spironolactone.

I didn't know until the last week that Eplerenone existed. When I talked about the lack of libido to my doctor I was surprised to learn that not only was this symptomatic for men taking Spironolactone but also some mens breasts become enlarged become sensitive and even lactate. So, when he told me about Eplerenone I was immediately interested and so was my wife. The only drawback for most people is that Eplerenone can be much more expensive in some areas than Spironolactone. So, because of the extra expense every month he usually recommends Spironolactone instead of Eplerenone so people don't have problems eating and paying expenses paying for Eplerenone. However, when I received the generic for Eplerenone in my area it was only about 10 dollars more a month than the other medicine spironolactone.

So far, I'm not having any ill effects in the adjustment over to Eplerenone from Spironolactone. My basic experience is to feel more macho with more testosterone spinning through my body where I have a little more attitude than before at this point. So, perception changes somewhat but more back to what I was used to for the last 50 years or so of my life since I went through puberty. So, from only two days after changing medicines I don't see any ill effects and I'm sort of glad to feel a little more macho again.

However, if one has to make a choice between feeling macho and staying alive and functioning I think taking spironolactone is a useful and less expensive alternative to Eplerenone.

Later:  June 5th 2014: I found when I took Eplerenone that I couldn't take it because of an allergic reaction to it with extreme pain in my body and I was very discouraged because of this. However, when I talked to my son (he has a bachelor's of Science in Nursing) he said that the classification of drugs that both spironolactone and eplerenone are shouldn't be quickly going onto or off of. He said they make the body operate differently so going off of either drug should be gradual and in stages. So, I said, "What if I reduce the Eplerenone to 1/2 tablet?" and he thought that might be the best way to go off it. So, that gave me the idea of going back onto Spironolactone with 1/2 a tablet as well.

However, what I learned about my personal physiology was that 1/2 tablet of spironolactone allows me to have sexual thoughts and feelings and to have a sexual relationship with my wife and also mitigates likely 80% or 90% of the symptoms of Edema as well. So, I decided to stay on 1/2 tablet of Spironolactone instead of taking Eplerenone and have been very happy ever since. However, your condition might be different. So, I can't speak for that. I'm simply taking responsibility for myself.
