Easter is the Celebration of Jesus rising from the Dead into Heaven. I have often thought that the symbol of Christianity should be this instead of the cross. Because to me the amazingness of Jesus isn't that he died for us but rose from the dead as an example to all of us here on earth.
If Christianity had the symbol of Jesus Rising into heaven as it's banner I don't think Christianity would have had the resistance it has run into through the centuries from many different groups.
For example, the Crusaders carried swords that were also crosses at the hilt and even held their swords as crosses by the blade during different religious ceremonies. Also, their swords were used to Knight them as well. So, their swords became instruments of justice.
But, if you study history often when Crusaders went from England and Europe to the middle east they slaughtered not just non-Christians but every man, woman and child in whole cities and then looted all the treasures there.
This is why Muslim terrorists consider Christians now often as "Crusaders" which still has a bad meaning to them in their histories.
So, my thought is that a better symbol for Christianity on into the foreseeable future would be Jesus Ascending into Heaven as he did on Easter rather than the cross which is sort of like going to a funeral for many non-Christians throughout the Earth.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
