Because they need to to stay alive.
Is that it? Yes. I think regardless of whether ultimately there is a God or a higher power if some people (probably 90% of humanity) didn't believe in more than what the world offers the human race likely would have gone extinct eons ago.
And then there is the God Gene that 90% of people have and 10% don't. And to me, this is perfectly logical too. Because sometimes people who believe in God are very vulnerable because of their beliefs and unscrupulous or just completely crazy people take advantage of that and lead people over physical or financial cliffs to their undoing. So, this 10% without the God gene (this is actually a genetic reality) are then logical and can say to people something like, "Hey! That person is either Crazy or a huckster and is making you bankrupt. Don''t follow them anymore."
So, to me, this is why some people don't have the God gene because otherwise someone of these crazy leaders would have driven everyone off a cliff or poisoned them as a group by now.
So, even though we might not completely understand our genetics every single gene might have a purpose we don't know about.
So, when people want to genetically engineer people I think to myself, "What if they try to eliminate a gene that we are going to need?"
Because there are at least two uses for every gene. For example, what if a gene that gives some people some kind of cancer also does something good that people don't know about like keep people from dying during droughts or other types of events. Or what if some gene not only causes such and such a problem but actually does something else the human race needs in a crisis we might not be facing now but might be in the future.
Especially in regard to Global Climate Change we may be facing as a race things we have never seen before in the last 100 years or even things not seen for 20,000 to 50,000 years or never. Some of our genetics might get us through that event or events too.
So, messing around too much trying to weed out certain genes I think is going to blow up in some people's faces eventually.
Because if I took a guess, sometime in the next 100 to 1000 years it is very likely that the human race will be reduced down to 1,000,000 to 10,000,000 people left on earth or less because of what humans are doing to the planet right now. And we don't fully know yet what will cause that extreme population reduction yet.
But, if I was to guess it would be floods, tornadoes, Hurricanes, Cyclones and droughts and whatever diseases that creates around the world.
So, once again, "Why do people believe in a Higher power?"
Because when you are somewhere with your guts hanging out on a battlefield or a car accident and no one has something to dull your pain and you think you are dying it might be helpful to believe in something so you don't just die of shock and panic right there and then.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
