I often equate going to college with becoming really proficient with a hammer. Once you are proficient you can either build a house with that hammer with everything you have learned or you can take that hammer can bludgeon yourself and everyone to death with it.
This is kind of what College is.
So, if you are a kind person who cares about yourself and others and who loves to learn new things, going to college might just teach you how to move into the woods, build a house, set up your solar arrays, dig a well, and live in the beautiful woods somewhere alone or with your family while running your Internet business and you then are an idyllic Wilderness Family Robinson or something like that.
Or,
Your parents can force you to go to college against your will so you are very hateful at having to do this, so you are sort of suicidal anyway because your parents always did like your older brother or sister better and then you decide after 4, 8 or 12 years with your PHD to become an efficient serial killer in your spare time while doing a job you hate to do that you never wanted but your parents did.
So, learning critical thinking where you say to yourself, "I love to learn about this. I'm here for me. I don't really care what my parents want or think. I'm here for me and I'm here to get enlightened and I'm going to enjoy the heck out of every moment of my life and become enlightened every day of my life."
Stephen Jobs was a Reed College dropout be for he and Stephen Wozniak designed Apple I computer.
Bill Gates was a Harvard College dropout before he went to Pacific Grove, California, bought CPM programming language. Turned it into MS-DOS (Microsoft disc operating system) and then Windows and then Windows 95 and then and then and then. And now he is the biggest philanthropist on earth along with his wife today through the Gates foundation worldwide.
So, is college important? It is if you know what you want to do. Otherwise, it might be a waste of time for you. But, if you love to learn, go for it.
