But, since we were visiting Portland we were going to Powell's book store which has almost any book you might want to purchase it is so very large and multi-floored. any way I wasn't feeling well and saw a bench with a pillar behind it that I could sit down on and lean against. As I looked at the rows of books next to me I saw a lot of books I wanted to look at. One of the books was a book on Haiku. (Haiku was one of the things that saved me during my last divorce). When I learned to put what was happening in my life in Haiku my life would finally make sense in very few words. So, my life moved quickly from chaos and confusion back to order through Haiku as I learned to write about my life in Haiku. (very very few words).
So, I bought a book of Haiku and I also bought a book I wanted to read called: "The History of the Karmapas".
The Karmapas are much more likely to directly demonstrate magical attainments than the Dalai Lama would be (even though both likely are equally capable) likely because since the Dalai Lama was also a political head of the Tibetan Government creating supernatural events all the time might worry some people (sometimes)
Whereas when I believe it was the 16th Dalai Lama Came to the U.S. in the 1970s or early 1980s he was seen to basically fade out and disappear during pujas (religious ceremonies) and many people I talked to observed this. I also met someone who saw his mother (or his aunt) who had to go to the bathroom in the middle of a puja walk through a wall because there wasn't an easy way to get to the bathroom without trampling people at that point.
So, there were a bunch of surprised westerners when she just walked through the wall to get to the bathroom quickly.
So, this is the kind of thing people sort of just expect now around the Karmapas. The wheel of the Dharma Spins quickly around them and time and space alters in the presence of the Living Buddhas.
By this merit may we all become the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the Ten Directions and the Three Times. Not one being left behind.
