When I was young I thought positive thinking was associated with being unrealistic because I saw cynicism as a more appropriate stance like many teenagers and early 20 somethings. Then my 2nd marriage ended and I was having a rough time and I was in my mid 40s and a friend came up to me and said, "Remember this. There are no problems only opportunities." I thought about how this is maybe the most optimistic phrase that is also true I had ever heard.
I took this to heart and 20 years later after living this motto my life has been pretty amazing. My new wife now of 20 years is the single most optimistic person I have ever met and one of the reasons I'm relatively okay now in my life in my late 60s.
So, basically it's like this. If you want to live past 40 you better start practicing positive thinking. Otherwise you may not get there.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
