Snow shuts I-5 at Grapevine
For those traveling to or from Los Angeles via I-5 or the 99, you should note that traffic is being taken off the freeway at Newhall (near Magic Mountain) and on the other side of the Grapevine, just south of Bakersfield for the southbound traffic.
The Caltrans info page is awfully difficult to read but here it is:
www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/hourlyPage.php
The number to call to check is 800.427.7623
Or just google I-5 Snow Conditions on Google News, FoxNews and others are updating regularly:
Here's the L.A. Times report:
latimes.com/news/…6325830.story
Snow is down to 4800 and that means lots of roads are closed until they plow in the morning (I think Grapevine will be open in the morning, although there really is a lot of snow up there in the mountains, they are probably going to escort people, and if it's spitting snow, it'll be with chains, I think).
Frazier Park news says that CalTrans is still trying to dig out the vehicles currently stuck up there and deal with the multiple accidents and spin-outs. No word of any injuries, though.
