Because of this people down through history have often believed in God as a way to deal with the overwhelming nature of life.
Today often people escape into computers and media to escape the overwhelming nature of life. And I suppose if you never went outside your apartment or house you might be able to survive this way too.
However, most people cannot do this because they have to work, meet people, get married, have children etc.
So, most people who actually live a full life tend to believe in God, Buddha or Nature or "The Force" or something because it is a way to cope with the overwhelming nature of life.
I think that people because they are intelligent and unlike most animals can foresee that they likely will eventually die need more than animals do to believe in a higher power in order to cope with the uncertainties and overwhelming nature of life.
I have found that people can usually do better while alive if they believe in something than if they do not, especially in difficult situations regarding accidents, illness or death.
So, though people can live without believing in anything it is a lot harder when really difficult things come up in their lives to go on.
Some people self medicate or get doctors to medicate them.
However, I don't find this a useful thing to do because this lessens your chance of surviving whatever you are going through at the time.
So, my preference is believing in something good and eating a good diet and getting exercise and surrounding myself with good people.
This seems to work the best in the long run of being the most happy and fulfilled in your life.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
