What would they choose to do?
Likely, the first thing they would do would be to reduce human populations here on earth to keep the planet intact and the ecology intact. This would be the logical thing that they would do.
However, if they were one or more alien species doing this it might be hard for us to imagine what their goals might be without actually studying them as Earth Cultures in a public way.
Imagine something like the United Nations of groups from the Solar System or nearby groups or even something the whole galaxy had decided upon doing to prevent the end of all DNA based life on earth.
Do I think this sort of thing is going on?
This is pretty likely even though it might be hard to say where or when and how.
But, the end results of the changes likely will teach us more than anything else.
In other words if there is still any DNA based life at all still living on earth within the next several hundred years this will tell us something about all this.
Otherwise, since humans are kept "OUT OF THIS LOOP" entirely at this point it's really hard to say.
