Latest Update: New evacuations orders have been issued for:
- Cahcagua Road from Asoledo Drive to Tassajara Road to include Trampa Canyon Road and tributaries.
- Areas West of Tassajara Road to Miller Canyon not including Miller Canyon.
- Tassajara Road from Miller Canyon to East Carmel Valley Road to include Chew’s Ridge, Kincannon Road, Lambert Flat, Parrot Ranch Road and tributaries.
- Tassajara Road west to Miller Canyon not including Miller Canyon.
- Areas east of East Carmel Valley Road at Tassajara Road to Cahoon Ranch Road to include Martin Road and Cahoon Ranch Road.

A quickly spreading wildfire started in Carmel Valley Tuesday afternoon. It was reported as 1,200 acres Tuesday night but after better mapping reported it at 742 acres.
The fire was 0% contained and 311 structures were threatened, according to Cal Fire. Three structures have been destroyed.
Evacuation Orders
Evacuation orders have been issued for the following locations:
- East of Cachagua Rd. between Sky Ranch and Via Cielo, including Sky Ranch, Tributaries and Via Cielo.
- East of Cachagua Rd. between Summerhill Rd. and Asoleado Dr. including Summerhill, Nason, Asoleado Dr. and Tributaries.
- Cahcagua Road from Asoledo Drive to Tassajara Road to include Trampa Canyon Road and tributaries.
- Areas West of Tassajara Road to Miller Canyon not including Miller Canyon.
- Tassajara Road from Miller Canyon to East Carmel Valley Road to include Chew’s Ridge, Kincannon Road, Lambert Flat, Parrot Ranch Road and tributaries.
- Tassajara Road west to Miller Canyon not including Miller Canyon.
- Areas east of East Carmel Valley Road at Tassajara Road to Cahoon Ranch Road to include Martin Road and Cahoon Ranch Road.
Evacuation warnings have been issued for the following locations:
- Cachagua Rd between Asoleado Dr and Tassajara Rd, including Trampa Cayon Rd, Comstat Rd, and tributaries. Evacuate south on Cachagua Rd to Tassajara Rd.
- All residents on Tassajara Rd, including the community of Jamesburg, Parrot Ranch Rd, Laurel Spring Rd, Kincannon Rd, Sage Mountain Rd, Lambert, Poppy Tree, tributaries, and Tassajara Rd from Cachagua Rd to East Carmel Valley Rd. Evacuate north on Tassajara Rd to Carmel Valley Rd.
Residents are being told to evacuate south on Cachagua Rd to Tassajara Rd. They will not be able to get out to Carmel Valley Rd.
Evacuation Center
An evacuation center has been set up at the Carmel Valley Library.
School closures
Due to poor air quality in many areas and evacuations in Cachagua, school is cancelled for all school sites and programs in the Carmel Unified School District on August 19.
As a result of several fires in the area, all on-campus and virtual classes and activities are cancelled for all Carmel Unified School District schools for August 19.

River Fire August 19: Fire grows to 10,672 acres as evacuations expand

Latest update: The evacuation center at Toro Park has been moved to Laguna Seca - 1021 Monterey Salinas Hwy, Salinas, Ca 93908.

The River Fire, burning south of Salinas, has grown to 10,672 acres Wednesday morning and was 7% contained. According to the Monterey County Sheriff, more than 5,000 people have been evacuated.
According to Cal Fire, the fire started at 3 a.m. Sunday morning due to lightning in the area of Pine Canyon Road and River Road.

Four firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while fighting the fire, reported Cal Fire. Full containment is expected by August 30.
Evacuations
Mandatory evacuations were issued for the following locations:
- Pine Canyon Road
- Parker Road
- Laurel Lane
- Trimble Hill Lane
- West of River Road from Parker Road to Gonzales River Rd.
- Limekiln Road
- Communities within the north of San Benancio Rd, West of Troy Lane, Southeast of Harper Canyon Rd to include Harper Canyon Road, Weather Rock Way, Rimrock Canyon Road.
- All areas south of Highway 68, east of San Benancio Rd, including San Benancio Road south to Harper Canyon Road.
- All areas south within the intersection of Hwy 68 and River Road to Tara Drive and Hwy 68 south to San Benancio Road, including the Las Palmas 1 & 117 Drive Communities.
- South of River Rd from Tara Dr. to Pine Canyon Rd. to include all roads off of:
- Las Palmas Pkwy
- Ranchito Dr
- Indian Springs Rd
- Berry Dr
- Enos Dr
- Redding Dr
- Belmont Circle
An evacuation advisory remains for the following:
- Indian Canyon, Mt. Toro Access Rd and San Benancio Rd from Troy Ln to Corral de Tierra, including Corral del Cielo Rd, Lucie Ln, and Covie Ln.
- Southwest of Parker Rd, Northwest of Corral del Cielo Rd and Rana Creek, southeast of the intersection of Chualar River Rd and River Rd, northwest of Limekiln Rd/Creek.
- Areas North of Highway 68 from San Benancio Road east to include all Roads off of Portola Drive to Veronica Drive/Estoque Place.
- Areas North of Highway 68 from Portola Drive and Veronica Drive/Estoque Place east, to include all roads off of Portola Drive to Creekside Court.
An estimated 1,527 structures are threatened. Cal Fire reported Monday evening that six structures had been destroyed and two had been damaged.
Evacuation Center
The evacuation center at Toro Park has been moved to Laguna Seca - 1021 Monterey Salinas Hwy, Salinas, Ca 93908.
The center will be open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. through Friday. The County asks that social distancing is observed and face coverings are worn.
Animals can be evacuated to the SPCA Monterey County. As of Monday evening, they were housing 11 dogs, 13 cats, and three birds. Call the SPCA at 831-264-5455 if you need assistance.
Residents who need emergency housing or have lost homes, may reach out to the American Red Cross 24 hour disaster dispatch helpline: 1-866-272-2237.
Road Closures
River Road is closed between Pine Canyon Road and Parker Road.
According to Caltrans, Highway 101 and Highway 68 remain open in the area but they advise drivers to use caution due to a change in traffic and the presence of emergency vehicles.
The California Highway Patrol had closed River Road from SR-68 to Chualar but reopened it Monday morning.
Toro Park is closed to the public as Cal Fire uses it as a staging area.
Cancelled School
As a result of the River Fire, all in-person (school site textbook pick-ups, etc.) and virtual activities for Washington Union School District are cancelled through the end of the week, reported the Monterey County Office of Education.
The first day of school for Spreckels Union School District (scheduled for Wednesday, August 19) has been postponed to Monday, August 24.
