If you grew up like I did in the 1950s Lieutenant Dan's philosophy during the Viet Nam War was shared by many. It was thought to be American to the core of dying for your country. Even I, at 18 if my father hadn't stepped in would have gone to the Viet Nam War and likely died or worse there. But, instead what had almost killed me already (blunt Trauma childhood epilepsy) from ages 10 to 15 also kept me out of the draft and the Viet Nam war. It's amazing how something that almost kills you sometimes saves your life too!
