My son was calling to tell me he might have to evacuate Portland, Oregon: Oregon City is already evacuated: 500,000 already evacuated

I advised him to prepare to evacuate potentially by preparing his car with things he would want to take. My friends in Mt. Shasta are also doing this especially when a 30 mile per hour wind was blowing by a few days ago. Their sons house just burned down in Talent as well nearby in Oregon.

The way to prepare is to load your most important pictures and documents and enough clothes to wear for a weeks time into your car or truck or vehicles. This way you just grab your cell phones and ipads and laptops and computers and anything else you need to evacuate when it is time to go.

If you are prepared you are more likely not to lose everything this way and you will have the bare minimum you need to survive with after the fire passes where you live. If your house is spared you move back in but if it is gone you will have to regroup somewhere else. But, if you have the bare minimum you need to survive your life then you are prepared for whatever the future might bring.
