I was raised to be a Christian Mystical Minister by my parents from birth. I didn't really have a choice in all this like most children, especially from ages zero to 12. However, all of us are formed to some degree by their cultural heritage and so this is the direction in which I was shaped by my parents. And they were very good people with very good intentions. So, this is the direction my formative years took. I have spoken with many people, especially Catholics who had similar experiences to mine. In fact, most people who were in my religion had at one time been Catholics because there is this similarity because of the transmutation of the Body and the Blood of Christ through the Eucharist which brings Catholics and mystical Christians into the same fold in how we see the whole universe and how we see God and all life in the universe. Even NEW AGERS in general tend to be mystical Christians in this sense.
I was also trained to be a musician, especially on the piano and trained to sing by my mother who was a coloratura Soprano. So, I always had an excellent singing voice like my mother. And I was always intellectually and mystically brilliant like my father.
And training to play musical instruments and singing changes in a positive way the way one's brain works and opens up many new pathways always for everyone. So, being trained as a child as one's brain develops is a very good thing usually.
So, I was a youth Group leader on Friday nights at my church from age 12 to age 21 and I traveled to Mt. Shasta with my parents where there is an over 1000 acre retreat center there. I had experiences often during the summer there that remind me of the movie:

Because this was the same era that I was a child in. We walked down those same types of "Northern California and Oregon" railroad tracks that went on forever and across railroad tressels next to the Sacramento River there below Shasta Springs. These were very eventful times in my young life sort of like a Church Camp in the wilds of Mt. Shasta with friends from all over the world while I was 5 to 21 year of age until I became a full adult.
In my early 20s a friend from church and I studied comparative religion together and decided that we wanted to go to Mustang in Nepal together at some point after we finished college. Even though I never personally went to Mustang in Nepal I did go to Nepal and Met my friend there when I was 37 with my whole family while we traveled in Nepal and India for 4 months in 1985 and 1986. I found that Buddhism (especially Tibetan Buddhism) worked for me in that I had found that Compassion was the most useful and powerful path in a spiritual evolution sense towards enlightenment. So, I'm still a mystical Christian but now I see myself as a Mystical Christian Tibetan Buddhist and My friend and I have had many empowerments now including Dzogchen which is one of the two most powerful Tibetan Buddhist empowerments that we both received from Lama Wangdor who came from Rewalsar, India to give this empowerment to about 100 of us in Mt. Shasta after I and my family and my friend returned from Nepal then in 1986.
Being gifted in various ways leads to a person's enlightenment and the enlightenment of everyone they meet in life. One Tibetan Lama I studied with said that "It's like a cloth napkin that you have in your lap at dinner. One of the threads in the napkin is you and all the other threads in the napkin are your family and friends and associates. And as you raise in consciousness everyone you are associated with becomes enlightened with you as your consciousness evolves throughout your life when you are moving every day towards enlightenment."
