Even though I was a child in 1958 and didn't see "The Blob" then because scary movies didn't work for me then I watched it finally last night. I found it both surrealistic and "out of body" in many ways and one could not forget the UFO implications subtly a part of this movie. Also, this movie as a cult movie set the stage for countless movies ever since in multiple ways. If or when you watch this movie maybe or likely for the first time you will see how old and quaint it is which seems like almost from another planet now. However, this became a cult movie at the time and ever since and maybe was the most watched (UFO) movie for some reason. Why was this? I'm not sure but Steve McQueen was 28 when he played the part of a 17 year old in this movie which is interesting in itself. One also sees that this type of genre was very fledgling (in regard to the UFO) aspect and other aspects of this movie. So, it is a classic sort of like when Frankenstein was originally written. So, expect a sort of "out of body" experience and to maybe laugh at some of the Naive things in this movie. However, you can also see why it was and Is a cult classic of its genre.
