The Nevers?

I started watching the Nevers last night and had to check if I was on the right channel because suddenly they were 2 centuries ahead in some kind of war situation.

Spoiler Alert: If you haven't watched this episode yet you might not want to read further now at least if you plan to.

It appears Amalia True was a soldier around 2090 I would estimate in England? and people were still fighting over the "Touched" but now they call it something different like "Spores" and she was a different person who was a Stripe? soldier on a particular side and drinks poison and you see the blue spirit of the "Touched" leave her and she reincarnates underwater as Amalia True who has just drowned herself who was a baker whose husband just died and can't deal with her life. So, the soldier "As Amalia True" comes to the surface of the water and is put in an insane asylum with "Maladie" before she is tortured into becoming Maladie. At this point I think Maladie's name is Sarah who is a nice but naive mental patient but not violent yet because the insane doctor hasn't tampered with her yet. So, this is the backstory of the future and the Insane Asylum that you might need to know about to finish the series this season. So, last night's story sort of catches you up on a lot of things you didn't know before regarding "The Nevers".
