It's the unexpected situations that tend to kill people the most

This is a memory I have of Maui where my whole family went to a place called Napili Kai which is a resort on Maui that my wife's mother discovered years ago. It had a little lagoon where you can snorkel and many people snorkel there but one day the rip tide started going strong. However, in places like this people from the midwest and other places in the U.S. and around the world where people aren't used to the ocean are there and don't really understand the ocean or what they are looking at when they see the ocean because they weren't raised and made familiar about what you have to look for to stay alive in regard to the ocean.

When this riptide started the lifeguard on the beach wasn't ready for so many people who had no idea what was happening so they started floating out to sea on the rip tide and Local people who understood called out to them: "Don't go out any further". We heard all the yelling and went out to see what was wrong and saw people being taken out to sea on the rip tide. Then locals who lived there and understood the ocean ran out into the ocean to rescue these people before they drowned or went so far out to sea that no one could save them. But, after they rescued all the people and told all the rest not to go out there that day they got their own boogie boards and starting surfing the 10 foot high waves that went along with the rip tides because they were locals and strong swimmers and could deal with these conditions and had a wonderful time while the non-locals not used to the ocean stayed on shore and watched them because they had been rescued.

So, the point is "it's all what you are used to". What is going to kill some people or drown them is going to be high camp and entertainment for others.

So, it's important to be realistic about your knowledge and skills in any given situation so you can survive whatever you face.

Otherwise, you might be soon gone.

Though I'm familiar with the ocean enough to know it was too much for me to deal with that day at my age there were others who had no idea what they were looking at and still others who lived there who enjoyed these extreme conditions.

So, it all depends upon your knowledge of whatever situation you are in whether you can survive that situation or not.

So, in these times be aware of what is going on around you so you can survive whatever comes.
