My daughter shared this with me. I think the graphs that represent all this are really interesting. They also delve into just how ignorant the most of the U.S. is in regard to understanding things like this at present. Our whole system is very far to the right (even Sanders) compared to views around the rest of the world.
Maybe the most interesting thing about all this is that we became like this mostly because of World War II and the Cold War. The Cold War made us very polarized in the world against Communism so in some ways it is very surprising that we have still Social Security, Unemployment compensation and Medicare and other social programs despite this rightest (relatively speaking) world view caused by World War II (Hitler) and Stalin and other Soviet Union leaders and actions against us ever since world War II.
If you compare the U.S. to Europe or even Canada they are all much more socialistic forms of democracy than we are where people don't go bankrupt just because they get sick without health insurance. Physical ailments kill people in the U.S. without health insurance daily or drive them to bankruptcy daily here in the U.S. This would not be acceptable in Canada or likely in almost any European countries right now. In my early 40s this almost killed me as well before I remarried and could then afford health insurance. So, when I got a heart virus at age 50 I survived both physically and monetarily mostly because I had health insurance to carry me through almost dying for 9 months time in which I was forced to retire in order to stay alive then.
So, in this sense America is Archaic in this sense like an ancient dinosaur form of Democracy now seen as obsolete in most of the civilized world.
However, it also should be said that World War II and the absolutely terrible aftermath for Europe also caused the socialized medicine which evolved there as a way for so many not to die horribly after World War II.
At the end of World War II we were the ONLY large economy on earth still standing where our cities hadn't been ravaged or burnt down by warfare. So, we loaned money to all our friends and even to our previous enemies and thereby helped to create the new world order which existed likely until Trump and in some ways continues still today even though greatly modified after Trump burned down much of what the U.S. and world had become after World War II.
