Hotels in Lake Tahoe are at 30% occupancy and most of these people are fire evacuees who have either lost their home already or just have been evacuated there. Also, just going there from sea level might put you in the hospital on oxygen if you are not used to the altitude combined with smoke. So, you are sort o taking your life in your hands, literally, if you go there especially from sea level somewhere.
