is that by the time you get it your brain isn't working right anymore and you cannot think straight anymore. So, all your decisions are suspect.
So, unless you are around someone who doesn't have heat stroke at the time it is very easy to die of it.
And for Californians and other people in western states we often get cocky in regard to heat. The problem is that it might be cool enough in your car with the air conditioner on if it's 100 or 110 degrees or more Fahrenheit. But, if you walk away from that air conditioner and you aren't realizing just how hot it is and what effect it is having on your body moment by moment you could die before you realize what is actually going on because your brain isn't processing right because either you are distracted by something or something else.
But, you have to be very aware of your surroundings and what you are experiencing to survive extreme heat situations. It only takes a minute or two in too high a heat for your metabolism and there is no saving yourself unless someone else saves you.
I have had heatstroke several times mostly because I have very thick fine Scottish hair which is great if you are in freezing or cold drizzly temperatures like my ancestors were on my mothers side. But, it led to me getting heatstroke several times before I understood what was actually causing it. So, I know a little something about heat stroke.
The worst is when you try to actually work hard outside in it. Then it is really easy to die before you know it and if someone isn't there that isn't losing their mental faculties to heat stroke then you are soon gone.
Luckily, either I or someone around me noticed something was wrong each time so I always survived. My first heat stroke was in Glendale at around 110 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit when I was 10 years old and playing far from home in the heat. Everything turned yellow like I was looking through a camera yellow filter and I was terrified so I got on my bicycle and rode home as fast as I could. Though the wind likely saved my life riding really fast home several miles on my bicycle I had a headache for about 3 days and was confused and in bed for that time too while I recovered.
However, by the time I was in my late 20s I learned how not to get heat stroke ever after by watching the temperature and it's effects on my mind and body every time.
