There are two things I think people need to realize:
1. Covid has changed EVERYTHING on earth.
2. Two trillion dollars spent on Afghanistan over 20 years time is enough.
The first is likely the most important.
IF you cannot protect your soldiers from Covid then soon you won't have a military at all.
Next, you cannot keep the Afghanistan War going on indefinitely. It's not financially possible even for the U.S.
Next, there was no easy way to withdraw with as corrupt a government in place as the one we were propping up. The likelihood is that the government officials were paid off to leave by the Taliban with Opium Drug money. They were given the alternative of leaving or every member of their families would have been killed horrible including themselves. I think there really wasn't an alternative seeing that the Taliban are drug lords and function a lot like that in every way.
So, if you are a realist "What else did you think could happen when the American Military left?"
