This is what many are doing. I know some of them myself. No matter what your first set of vaccinations was Pfizer or Moderna or even if you got a J n J single dose what people are starting to do since the Moderna vaccine is the most effective against the Delta Variant is to get a booster from Moderna.
You might ask how are they doing this?
What they are doing now is to say that they haven't been vaccinated for Covid yet and so they are getting their first dose of Moderna using it as a booster. There are many many people mixing and matching vaccines all over the world depending upon the problems that are more local to them.
Here in the U.S. the biggest problem (maybe 99% of all Covid cases killing people are Delta Variant cases.
So, since the Moderna vaccine is the most effective against the Delta Variant they are going in and saying they are not vaccinated and getting their first dose of Moderna. Then maybe 6 months after that they might go in and get their 2nd dose of Moderna as a 2nd Booster since it is the best protection from Delta Variant known on earth at present.
But, the earliest you want to get any booster is at least 6 months after you got your last vaccination (whatever it was).
Question: Are regular vaccinations boosters?
On one level it doesn't matter simply because whatever vaccination you use as a booster it gives you 10 times the immunity against Covid when you get that vaccination. But, if you want to specifically defeat Delta Variants, Moderna is the best way presently to do this.
