The 1960s began the drop in trust in Government: by the time Nixon resigned our trust in government was just a shell of it's former self

Trust in U.S.  Government has remained between 11% and 18% most of the time now since Nixon resigned. 

What caused this drop in trust of our government? The Death blow of loss of Trust was when our government like J. Edgar Hoover (head then of the FBI) was complicit in the assassination of President Kennedy. J. Edgar Hoover was also complicit in the assassination of Martin Luther King as well. To have the head of the FBI complicit in the assassination of a president is part of what started all this. J. Edgar Hoover was put in charge of the FBI to end  Al Capone's reign as head of the U.S. Mafia in the 1930s. However, I think over time Hoover became very strange after this and became sort of a threat to normal government but they still didn't get rid of him as head of the FBI.

So, he didn't interfere with Russia or Castro or the Mafia killing Kennedy. This then caused Nixon to be president who also was also mentally ill in ways like J. Edgar Hoover and then this caused trust to dip to almost nothing by the time Nixon was forced to resign in the mid 1970s.

So now, after Trump has gutted any trust people might have had left in government and let Russia basically into the U.S. government while he was president trust in government and even in Biden is almost non-existent here in the U.S.

It could be said there is a crisis of trust in government by the people here in the U.S. right now.

However, strangely enough, Putin could be ending all that especially if he attacks Ukraine and thereby unites all democracies in the world including the U.S. against him. 

This is what I find the strangest thing of all is that Putin is uniting all the democracies on earth against him at this point which is beginning to solidify the U.S. as a nation once again against him.

Before World War II the U.S. had become mostly pacifist until Pearl Harbor you might remember in person or through history books in school. But, Pearl Harbor changed everything and took the U.S. to war against Japan and Germany both.

This sort of thing could be happening again because of Putin.

However, because of information wars and Cyber Wars and nuclear weapons don't expect this war to look like anything you have ever seen before because Russia and China are aligned this time in also a very strange sort of way.
