In the series 1883 on Paramount Streaming an immigrant girl in a Wagon Train West (young woman) is bit in the butt while trying to go to the bathroom in the wilds and dies from a rattlesnake that bites her while she is squatting in the wilds and doesn't see the snake because she is from Europe and not used to the wilds of Texas. Since they show this in a really graphic way (her fatal bite) it made me think about how many people travel through Green Mojave Sidewinder Country who have no idea that this snake is 9 to 10 times more poisonous than a Diamondback rattler. So, I decided to write about this for travelers to Texas to California and into Mexico where these Green Mojave Rattlers live. If you are camping out or getting out of your car or truck and roaming the wilds, watch out for them. They are polite and rattle to let you know they are there. But, if you aren't aware then soon you might be dead while walking in the wilds from Texas to Mexico to California.
I live in Northern California now where mostly Mountain Rattlers (which are more brown) and Diamondback Rattlers live. But, always listen for their rattles because they usually will announce themselves (in a polite sort of way) before they strike you.
If you hear the rattlers (this is a very scary moment because this has happened more than once to me) you quietly and without any noise slowly back away from them if you can. This happened last to me at Klamath Knot near Etna California in the wilderness. I was walking towards the river in shorts and Teva sandals and heard the rattler which raised the hair on the back of my neck. I was able to back away carefully and survive this situation then. But, I felt pretty vulnerable in my shorts and open toed TEVA sandals at the time. But, if you are listening they are usually polite.
Another thing to know: NEVER PICK UP a baby rattler (because they are cute). Why?
Because a baby rattler has no control of how much venom they shoot through their teeth when they bite so they shoot all
their venom so being bit by a baby rattler is almost always fatal because of this. So, stay away from baby rattlers too.
