Dogs
Sometimes
are
Smarter
than
People
I wasn't allowed a dog or a cat as a child and this upset me. I was only allowed hamsters and parakeets which are nice too. Tippy a Blue parakeet was given to me by someone in my church who was older. This was an amazing bird and very sweet and would spit seeds all over my toe like he would for a mate sitting on eggs. Very sweet.
However, one day I was 10 and walked outside to get the mail and forgot Tippy was on my shoulder. Being 10 I said; "Tippy" loudly because I was scared to lose this friend. But, Tippy flew away never to be seen again. And for me at least that was the end of Tippy the Amazing blue parakeet.
I finally got my own dog because my youngest daughter needed a pet or pets and so I went to Blockbuster where we rented first VHS tapes and then DVD's while they were still open. Outside of the Blockbuster then where I live the SPCA had dogs that were rescue pets. I found the dog I had always wanted in a cage there. He was about 60 or 70 pounds and a mixture of Australian Shepard and German Shepard. I brought him home that day. Fortunately or unfortunately my wife also brought a dog home that was a Jack Russell Corgi mix. We loved the Corgi part of her but it's important to know that Jack Russell's are an outdoor dog only. The advertisements of Jack Russell Dogs eating furniture is when you keep them inside too much. But, we loved the corgi part of her but the Jack Russell part of her was always rolling in horse poo or any kind of poo and nothing I did including cold water from a hose outside to wash her off changed her one bit as far as rolling in poo on a trail somewhere.
But, the dog I adopted from the SPCA was likely the most intelligent male dog I have ever known. His Name was Furby (someone else named him) but he was then 17 months old already so I kept the name.
Furby was convinced he was smarter than I was and I wondered if I could control him and be alpha with hm because he believed he was the cat's meow. So, while I was worrying about being his alpha dog he one day took a whole pizza off the top of the stove and I had to scare him for doing that. After that, he realized I was alpha and we got along fine after that. But, he did love pizza more than anything so I tried to share some with him whenever we had some and this was fine with him because he was a food doggie. Some dogs are love doggies and some are food doggies and some are both. But, he was likely the smartest single dog I ever knew that was a male.
We presently have the smartest Female dog I ever have known because Furby passed on about 2016 from old age. So, our present dog is a Blue Merle Corgi who is now just over 3 years old and is likely the smartest female dog I ever knew. She's mostly my wife's dog but she puts up with me and I take her for walks on the beach almost every day now even sometimes when it's raining or storming we go to the beach for exercise.
Some Dogs are smarter than people. But, imagine being a dog smarter than people. Is that a good thing?
I guess it depends upon the situation.
A family dog is an amazing thing!
Here are some pictures of blue merle corgis from Google images. Ours has one blue eye and one eye which is half blue and have brown. Amazing Dog!
