The highest altitude in Florida is 345 feet which isn't enough to stop an earthquake Tsunami coming from Europe or Canary Islands

The problem is that any tsunami to hit Florida from Europe or say the Canary Islands could travel over all of Florida which would be a problem because Florida's highest altitude is only 345 feet in elevation.

 

So, of all of Florida's problems it's low altitude I consider to be the worst potentially for people who live there.

 

For example, Hawaii (all the Islands) have enough altitude that people could get to for maybe a 1000 foot high Tsunami to survive something like this but Florida does not.

 

When we got our home in 1999 near San Francisco 1 mile from the Ocean we made sure our altitude was actually between 200 to 500 feet in altitude because of Tsunamis or potential tsunamis.

 

Even though people who live with a view of the ocean often pay 1 million to 5 million dollars for those homes in California I believe it is much safer if you are going to live there full time and not just visit that house some times during the year to own a home above 200 to 300 feet in alltitude because of potential tsunamis.

 

All you have to do is to look at how 250,000 people died (mostly in Indonesia) in 2004 from an earthquake caused tsunami or the 20,000 to 30,000 people who died in Japan in 2011 I believe from an earthquake induced tsunami to think in the way I am now.

 

However, it is true that when these things come (IF you are listening to radio or TV Weather) you might survive something like this even if your home does not. 

 

But, that is small comfort to the people Not listening to radio or TV news when the Tsunami actually hits either.
