Without Terrorism Putin Would not or Could not have become president in the first place

One can make a credible case, as some have, that without terrorism Putin would not have become president in the first place. Once in office, attack after attack gave him the pretext to dismantle democracy brick by brick. Now, all power flows from him, not from the people, and no alternative or counterbalance to his one-man rule is allowed to survive.

Understanding this is understanding why Putin is still in power and how he eroded Russian Democracy to this new low through a Russian autocracy.

When someone like Putin (or Trump) scares people enough they can then take away all rights of their people like Putin has already done in Russia. The people must be brave enough to resist this but they need to be educated with the truth enough to resist enough in the first place.

The real problem is what Government has been like in Russia for the last 1000 years. So, people got used to more and more corrupt governments as a matter of course.

They never had the chances that people had in Europe and the United States (so far at least) to have a democracy and to have it flourish Yet.

You notice I said "YET" simply because the death of Navalny could usher in an era where all this changes if and when Putin passes away. However, it is also possible that his underlings (one of them) may take over his position and continue the repression of truth and facts and democracy still in Russia as well.

This is why we need to protect our democracy here at home while we still can.

If we don't protect our democracy from Putin and his underling Trump, WHO WILL?
