3 hour jet lag is still jet lag

If you travel to Hawaii the first thing you notice (depending upon the climate you normally live in) is that right now the temperature never goes below about 67 degrees outside ever (there are exceptions to every rule). However, if you are anywhere along the coasts of Maui right now this is true. However, on Maui remember there are places like Makawao and Kula that might be from 2000 to 4000 feet in elevation too where the climate might be more like Southern California even though more humid generally. And at the top of Haleakala it is about 10,000 feet elevation and you can actually drive there (if you are brave eough) and see the Crater and we even saw the peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa from the tip top observation place you can get to when we were there.

However, then you return home from feeling like you have been "underwater" in warm water from all the heat and humidity and then you are going to deal somewhat with Jet lag. There is a 3 hour difference between California and Hawaii by the way which means that if it's noon here it's 9 am there. So, when you first get to Hawaii 6 am there is 9 am where you are from (if you are from California).

However, if you are on the east coast it might be 3 or 4 pm while it is 9 am in Hawaii. So, that is a much greater change to get used to both directions.

Since we have been back I have felt tired a lot trying to adjust to California time again. So, I find I sleep a lot more here than I did in Hawaii while I was there. OF course you are dealing with the excitement of an almost Disneyland environment there in Hawaii too depending upon what you plan to do while you are there. It feels in many ways like you are a completely different planet than the rest of the world which is why so many people get married or celebrate their honeymoons there like my wife and I did too in 1995.

So, I think it's important wherever you are coming from going to Hawaii that you are going to deal with some jet lag either going or coming or both of a minimum of 3 hours even if you are going there from California like we did.
