The Dragon Sighed. He was lonely. He had just lived so many years now that it was hard to be enthusiastic about anything. His loneliness wasn't about friends, it was about idealism that young dragons can experience. He was so wise he knew almost everything before it happened but this sort of took the joy out of life in some ways even though it allowed him to live almost forever. However, he knew that God had created him to live a very long time even though sometimes he saw this job as sort of a thankless one. God was thankful that he would choose to live a long time and people might be thankful that they were given enough wisdom and knowledge to stay alive longer and longer, but the Dragon felt sort of lost and alone as more and more of his friends died. He was trying to figure out a useful point of view in regard to staying alive longer and longer.
There was theory but then there was reality. When one is young one might have many theories about everything. But then, reality always comes in and your butt almost always gets kicked by reality.
So, in his life "Truth is Always much stranger than Fiction" was one of his basic rules for at the very least the last 50 years of his life.
So, the Dragon missed having young and beautiful girlfriends like he had often before he was married. Though his experience of those times were very traumatic they were also very amazing and adventurous and life altering. Now, in comparison his life was relatively boring so he was trying to think about how to revitalize his life.
Traveling had been one solution and so he had gotten up and flown and visited all the amazing places around the world that people and other Dragons had told him about. But, even travel can get old if you do it enough. Just like when you are a little dragon and you buy a gallon of ice cream if you eat that whole gallon of ice cream at one sitting it can make you ill and you might never want to eat ice cream again. Never? Usually that lasts only about a week and then you buy one ice cream cone and it still tastes really good.
And then the ice cream cone by age 15 or so becomes a girlfriend and by age 21 too much of any good thing usually becomes a bad thing. So, balance is necessary. So, one's 20s become trying to find enough balance and harmony to survive to 30 and beyond. And then if you live to be 30 you can expect to see 90 (if you live in the U.S. or other developed country).
Sooner or later one learns that the Greeks were right when they said, "Moderation in Everything" which also reminded the Dragon of the "Middle Path of Lam Rim".
So, the Dragon had accepted the fact that he might never die. However, now the problem was actually coping with that if it actually became true. Because as we all know by now, "Truth is always much stranger than Fiction!" And so for everybody living forever is always going to be completely different than anyone ever expects. Because after all that is always the way life is. But, without dreams living even to 30 is not possible. So I guess learning to live with different types of loneliness that all humans do must be the answer. So, I guess the Dragon realized that making himself his best friend and being as kind to himself and all beings all the time was the real answer to longevity. Because if you are going to live forever or even almost forever, you might as well enjoy it!
