Though it is not completely accurate historically (he didn't die in prison and died in California in 1976) I still enjoyed the movie. He did however, in real life do time in Alcatraz and someone there tried to kill him with a lead pipe but failed.
I enjoyed the movie and I'm not sure the accuracy of the movie but, one thing I did know is that Mickey Cohen was a boxer and tried to go professional from 1930 to 1933 so he would have been formidable in a fist fight. He was a featherweight at around 5 foot 5 inches or so. I especially liked the old cars of that era and how people dressed because I was a child during the 1950s and remember people dressing similar to this and how neon lights were everywhere then. So, cars and buildings tended to be built completely different than now in most ways. Wearing a dress hat for men was very common but I remember my Dad didn't like hats so he didn't wear them. Cops wore those hats a lot but church going folk mostly didn't I guess. Sean Penn did a great job with his part as always and Emma Stone was a knockout in this film as well. It was really fun to see this period depicted so well. I think the Makeup people did a good job with Sean Penn's nose too.
Also, Paul Guilfoyle, plays the part of Mickey Cohen in the movie L.A. Confidential with Russell Crowe
Mickey Cohen lived to be 53 in real life.
