Ski Lifts in the Sochi Area?

I was reading an article in Time magazine about Putin wanting to make the Sochi area an international place to go skiing like the Swiss Alps.

There is just one problem with that. That whole area has been de facto at war with Russia for several hundred years and most of Europe knows this too. Russia might be able to keep the "Black Widows" in house arrest in their towns during the Olympics to protect all the foreigners from around the world visiting Sochi. But, after they leave and all the security leaves why would people go to Sochi to ski if they might be killed by local militias or terrorists?

It is thrilling to go skiing or snowboarding in a really nice place like that. But, if you are worried about your family being murdered accidentally by separatists because they don't want you there why would you go.  Just like people would not have been at the Boston Marathon if they thought they were going to have their legs blown off or killed, people in Europe and around the world aren't going to go to Sochi to a ski resort from Europe if they are afraid of dying there either.

So, though Putin is right to develop his country, until enough people in that area of the country are more happy with their government people won't go to ski there without 40,000 security personnel like they have now. That's just logical from a European and U.S. and likely Canadian point of view as well as many other free countries around the world.
