It appears now that whatever Russia can take over (city by city) in Ukraine it will (as long as it can be done bloodlessly). So, what appears to be happening is Russia searches for areas that are majority Russian Sympathizers, then sends in people to take over bloodlessly areas city by city. The majority of Russian people in Russia likely will approve of this as long as the "Takeovers" are bloodless. If people start dying in droves then Putin likely won't be in power much longer. However, theoretically if, like a surgeon he skillfully takes over one city at a time he could do this one city at a time taking over each city with a majority of Russian Sympathizers for every city like that in Eastern Europe.
So, this is sort of a nightmare for the U.S. and Europe to deal with. And this is a very bad precedent regarding international law. Because this could be a new paradigm (in actuality rather than just theoretical) for big world powers in a new form of empire building colonialism.
