If this actually happened I don't think governments would tell us for a variety of reasons. China, Malaysia, Australia, the U.S. , New Zealand, England and others might know if this happened and even might have needed to clear away the debris that would show what actually happened. And this might be why it actually took so long to find these pingers. What if, for example, these are relacement pingers that make up a false story so governments don't have to tell people they had to shoot it down?
All countries would understand if this happened. If it did there would be many reasons for this action. Number 1, governments would not want it to crash on a populated part of Australia. Number 2 when someone contacted it and no one answered because it was on autopilot because no one was conscious in the cockpit anymore, because they wouldn't know that no one was in charge this also might be a reason to shoot it down. So, if this actually happened they wouldn't want to tell the families. However, this sort of thing might happen in the future when more computers on autopilots malfunction because basically autopilots now fly planes more than pilots do. And most people don't realize this yet. And might not.
Also, if it was on autopilot and decompression in all or part of the fuselage happened when the autopilot took it to 45,000 feet likely it was a plane full of dead people already before it flew back to Malaysia and further south. So, if it was shot down likely everyone was unconscious already from decompression when the plane exceeded 45,000 feet in altitude.
