It means you don't necessarily believe anything that anyone tells you.
You take the responsibility upon your self to fact check anything you are told by anyone because you have learned "Critical Thinking" at a college level and know how to ferret out the truth in multiple ways. So, you are the opposite of "Slave mentality" seen in uneducated people around the world often.
A free thinker questions everything including himself or herself. In this way the most amount of truth and the least amount of lies and half truths tend to exist in this person's life because they are always fact checking everything all the time.
Truth is important. Imagine someone says to you, "I think it is safe to drive down this road." And you think to yourself, "Well. I'm out in the desert and I see clouds over there and I know that flash floods happen when clouds like that bring down rain over there 50 miles away so I might be washed away if I drive down that road. So, you drive to the edge of the cliff and watch other cars get washed away who also listened to this person. This is a Free Thinker. Or that person blocks the road with their car so others don't die before they can cross the "dry" stream bed on pavement in their cars and thereby saves their lives.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
