I'm still wondering if the Desolation of Smaug is episode 2 or episode three. The way it looks right now it is episode 2. It's playing on HBO right now so If I stay up late enough I'll figure out if it is episode 2 or 3.

Don't read the rest if you have never seen this movie before and intend to see if for the first time soon.

I'm thinking it has to be episode 2 because it seems to me they haven't met the elves yet or been captured by them. So, it must be episode 2 even though the name makes much more sense for episode 3.
