Why do American Citizens still own firearms when the citizens of most countries now don't?

I think the best reason that I can think of would be: "To prevent a worldwide Dictatorship possibly run by China and Russia and others". For me, this would be the overall reason.

So, my point of view is the ONLY single thing that prevents a worldwide dictatorship and the end of all democracies is weapons in the hands of the American People.

Why is this?

Because of human nature. Whenever you have volunteer armies (and now almost all armies are volunteer armies.

They tend to become corrupt over time and think of their needs and their wants over the needs of the populations they are supposed to serve.

This is just human nature.

The only way to have the military and the police totally serve the people is to raise most of the soldiers and the police from a draft.

We had a draft here in the U.S. from 1940 until the mid 1970s around the time the Viet Nam War ended.

Do I want a draft?

Hell NO! This causes other problems like people who don't belong in any war getting killed all sorts of awful ways.

At least with a volunteer army you don't get so many kids dead who have only played video games and never rode a bike or taken a physical risk before. And when put into a firefight are usually going to wind up dead pretty soon, except for a few who might have the right instincts. And even they are going to get PTSD from the carnage (theirs and everyone else's).

However, without the draft the people of any nation are not protected from the corruption that is bound to begin within about 5 to 10 years from the end of the draft in armed services around the world.

So, I would say the only real protection that keeps a world wide dictatorship from being created right now is the American people armed and dangerous.

If you disarm the american People I can guarantee there will be a dictatorship ruling the U.S. within 50 to 75 years and likely all of the world in one single one.

Why?

Because imagine you are a country militarily attacking the U.S.

You would have to be out of your mind to do this.

American snipers who were citizens would be picking off this army from a distance one by one for years until there weren't any left of any army. This is the same thing they did during the revolutionary war.

The only way any large country could ever conquer the U.S. is they would have to kill everyone first with neutron bombs that don't destroy things just anything alive like people, plants, trees, animals, birds, fish etc.

But then everything in the U.S. would be dead that was alive and so who would want to live here then?

So, actually doing that makes about as much sense as blowing up the whole planet and killing everyone.

This is why no one is crazy enough to attack the U.S.
