The advantage of a prep school for your child

The advantage of a prep school for your child

First of all, a prep school is exactly what it says it is, it is a preparatory school for college and for life. So from about eighth grade on it is just like being in a community college setting in most respects. However, preparatory school's often cost $20,000-$40,000 a year for your child to attend them. So unless you can afford this it might not be a useful solution for you.

Another alternative, might be to put your child on independent study and homeschool them through this yourself. However doing this is more useful from 5 to 12 then it is afterwards. The reason for this is primarily socialization. I suppose if you have over two or three children that this could work longer if they get along. But generally speaking by 12 to 14 your children need socialization more than they need homeschooling or independent study.

So there are many different ways to look at this and many ways to solve this problem.

However, the way I presently see it is that public schools generally speaking are in some ways like reform schools in most places in the United States and the world. They are babysitting services more than they are educational services. The reason for this is the general dysfunctionality in 20 to 30% of most households. The alcohol and drug abuse and general confusion in these households causes kids to be completely dysfunctional in a public school setting and so they disrupt School for everyone else and often Wind up in jail at some point or many points in their lives. This is the problem of sending your child to a public school.

My older 3 children were all homeschooled on Independent Study from 1980 to 1985 through:
