‘Deaths of Despair’ Rates Across Countries

As you can see in this graph while most European countries are at 35 to 50 deaths per 100,000, the U.S. is at about 85 per 100,000. The logical reason for this is they have useful medical care that is socialized from cradle to the grave and we do not. So, this likely is why we have twice as many people dying from these things than Europe does. For example, well over 180,000 people have died form opioids since 1999 in the U.S. including Heath Ledger and Prince.
