Historical sources for Padmasambhava

Historical sources[edit]

One of the earliest sources for Padmasambhava as a historical figure is the Testament of Ba (dating to the 9th or 10th centuries), which records the founding of Samye Monastery under the reign of king Trisong Detsen (r. 755–797/804).[6] Other texts from Dunhuang show that Padmasambhava's tantric teachings were being taught in Tibet during the 10th century. In later texts, Padmasambhava's story became highly mythologized and integrated into Tantric ritual.[7]

end partial quote from:
When I look at this it becomes possible in my mind that Padmasambhava actually was Merlin the Magician when he was younger and if this is true then after creating Tibetan Buddhism from the local Bon religion and combining it with Buddhism from India he eventually left and went back to England as an older man and put King Arthur on  the Throne there.

This also creates the interesting possibility that Merlin was actually a fully  trained and fully realized Mahasiddha but in the culture of England then that would make no sense so the locals would see him only as a wizard (or scientist of the period) who had traveled all over the world.
