I put into the search engine "When was the ancient Nalanda University destroyed?"

IT's location was in Bihar state in India and I visited there in late December or early January 1985 or 1986 after my family and I finished attending the Kalachakra Tantra with about 500,000 other people in Boghgaya, India around Christmas in Bodhgaya with the Dalai Lama officiating who is sort of like the Pope of the Tibetan Buddhist church. There are also several lineages of Tibetan Buddhists. The Dalai Lama is Gelukpa, but the earliest was Nyingma, then Milarepa and Marpa founded Kagyu and then there are is also Sakya and one I hadn't heard of before: Jonang. But all of these lineages and any others are under the Dalai Lama as the accepted head of the Tibetan Buddhist Church around the world. The Dalai Lama has been reincarnating since the first one was born in 1391 AD. But people like myself who have had initiations in most of the lineages are called "Remay" to denote an ecumenical approach like the Dalai Lama.

The second destruction came in the early 7th century by the Gaudas. This time, the Buddhist king Harshavardhana (606–648 AD) restored theuniversity. The third and most destructive attack came when the ancient Nalanda University wasdestroyed by the Muslim army led by the Turkish leader Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1193.Sep 2, 2014
