Santa Barbara

My daughter in law and Grandson had never been in Santa Barbara before. My daughter in law liked Santa Barbara better than anywhere else she had ever been in the U.S. mostly because of the climate there. She couldn't believe that it was winter while we were there because it was so different than the colder winters she was raised in. So, seeing people in shorts walking along the beach and wading there a couple of days ago now really made her realize how nice California can be even in the winter.

She is used to NO leaves on any tree in winter at all whereas coastal California looks green (from some rain since December at least) but generally there are leaves on anything that is still alive there after the long drought. We noticed as we traveled north on 101 many dead live oak trees along the way from the drought. However, the city of Orange ONLY received 3 inches of rain in 12 months which is pretty serious. However, their water comes from the Colorado River and northern California by canal. And Santa Barbara has desalination plants for emergencies too.
Also, These plants are in bloom all over which was nice to see too.
