You notice that Republicans have given up defending Trump. Why?

Because most of what Trump has done and is doing is indefensible if Republicans ever want to be re-elected. So, they get upset about the process and just accept that Trump is guilty. Because everyone knows he is and so they worry instead about how to get re-elected as Republicans with or without Trump as president.
