I don't intend to fly anywhere for a couple of years

I will greatly miss Hawaii and Maui and Kauai and visiting there with my friends. But, I just don't want to get exposed to the air on a plane at least until I and my wife and friends have vaccinations against coronavirus and even that I would wait until it had really good real life testing to see how it turned out.

I waited several years for example, to get the shingles vaccination to make sure it was safe too because I had older friends in the 1970s and 1980s that had terrible problems with shingles.

So, any vacationing will be done by car or truck. I'm still thinking how to stay places safely though where I feel safe with my wife. One idea is to have a Bambi Airstream I tow with my truck but then you have to park it somewhere that you feel safe using a bathroom and showers. Otherwise you are talking about a big motor home and those are expensive. We used to have a 21 foot motorhome but in the end we didn't use it as much as we expected to and mostly I used the Onan generator in it to light our home and keep our refrigerator during power outages.

So, thinking about all this is still a work in progress for me because I still don't feel safe enough to stay in ANY hotel room. Otherwise, you might as well fly because you are also going to be exposed in any hotel room you rent or any restaurant you go into as well. So, mostly being in the out of doors where you can easily be 6 feet or more away from other people is going to be the best and wearing a mask even outdoors around others for their safety as well as yours.

But, for me since we have two vehicles and I have a motorcycle and bicycles too, the main problem is feeling safe where we stay and feeling safe where we prepare food and eat. Because going from point A to point B anywhere in the 49 states is possible without flying if you have a car or truck or motorcycle or bicycle. The problem becomes where are you going to stay at night where you feel safe.

And if you tell me you are going to camp out to feel safe. That could be a problem because everyone else is going to see that solution too. So, getting a reservation (especially on Weekends) for any campsite might be rough this summer in the 49 states you can drive to.
