Variants is the answer. The people dying in India are now younger people under 50 years old. Also, people live outside a whole lot more in India because it is a mostly tropical country except for the Himalayan Mountain Region. So, just like Hawaii it doesn't get that cold there and is warm most places (compared to the Northeast of the U.S. at least).
So, India mostly is more like California and Florida Climate wise. But, this is really scary for the U.S. too because if summer type of weather is what all these people are dying from, in the rest of the world might be soon into it too with Double Variants and Triple Variants that are now showing up in India all over the place as well as places like Switzerland already in Europe.
