The basis seems to be "NOT GETTING beaten in the primaries by someone further right than they are.
So, we are in dangerous territory for our democracy now when Anti-Democratic forces can succeed and make Republican office holders cowards unwilling to stand up for American Democracy.
What this actually means in real time is that enough Republican rank and file are so uneducated and so deluded that this can actually happen.
Do these Republicans actually understand that they are not supporting Democracy by doing this?
I'm not sure. It could be that the White Power Block doesn't care about democracy anymore.
There likely is a group who are saying: "ONLY Whites can vote at any cost!"
And this group would be historic for the U.S. in that there have always been some like this.
But, are they really ready for another Hitler in Trump or another like him?
I don't think the U.S. is ready for another Hitler in Trump because we already had that and look what it cost us already on January 6th of having all these deluded people after Trump lied to them about joining them at the Capitol. Instead he went home and watched it all on TV while people died and were injured.
That they still seem to believe his lies shows how PTSD they actually are.
Can our democracy survive people like this?
This remains to be seen.
