My experiences with Religion have always been very paradoxical and confusing, especially as a child

There is a saying that typifies my experiences growing up:

"There are no atheists in Foxholes"

You might not immediately get what this is about but when you think you are going to die often you have no choice but to believe in God in the real terror of that moment.

Because it is either believe in God or run jumping and screaming off a cliff.

Many of you might not have had the experience of believing you were going to die soon.

We after all live in a very wealthy society where many people have access to medicine and not only medicine but also counseling help too.

But, this wasn't as true at all when I grew up.

There was literally no one I knew who had health insurance as a child unless they were on Medicare and over 65 when I grew up. And at this point I'm not even sure how all this worked then at all. The point is that as a child people were dying at all ages to the left and to the right of me. The world was much scarier then than it is now.

Note: I just found out that Medicare didn't even exist until I was 17 years old in 1965.
