However, many many other roads, especially bridges across the river have been closed between Gonzales and Chualar and at least two roads near Highway 68 where River Road is. Flooding isn't as bad as was originally predicted. One reason for this is that many levees have failed and instead put water on top of farm fields and farm houses and dwellings on either side of the Salinas River. So, for right now the storms coming (the worst one is coming Friday Night into Saturday. However, more flooding could occur eventually from these new storms that will continue hitting us here in California at least until Wednesday when a High Pressure area sits over the coast and near California which might prevent more storms from hitting us for awhile and instead send them north to the Oregon border and further north all the way up into Canada.
The worry is of course that the whole Monterey Peninsula will become an island with water stopping land travel on all sides because Highway 1 down towards Big Sur is closed at some point. and Highway 1 and 68 might be closed which effectively would close off access to 101 which also might be closed by Flooding out near Chualar at that point.
The last time this happened was in 1995 for a few days then when the only practical way off the Monterey Peninsula was by boat or Plane or Helicopter.
