The risk of AI extinction of human beings is much greater at this point than Global Thermonuclear annihilation

Why?

Because it is a lot like the lobster story I wrote about in a previous article.

People have no real idea what the problems can or will be from AI.

The biggest threat to people might be unrealistic expectations and the fact that AI has no morality or reason to make sure you stay alive. People keep people alive. AI does not because it has no ethics or morality and likely doesn't have any idea what a human being physically is or what being a human being is about. It has no reference points (at least at this point in history).

To retell the lobster story:

The lobster is put in a pot of water on a stove but the water is cold so it feels comfortable in the cold water. But, then heat is brought to the pot but it so slowly rises in temperature there is no single moment when the lobster will jump out until he is dead.

AI is sort of like this. You don't necessarily know you are in danger until you are dead because you have never experienced anything like this before.

So, those of us who understand computer programming and

Algorithm s can

talk until we are blue in the face to those not educated in this way. So, the uneducated are like the lobsters in a pot of cold water and they won't know when they are cooked because they will be dead then.
