Understanding Syria

To understand why Syria is killing so many of its people one needs to understand who the ruling minority actually is. Just like the minority Tutsi ruled over the Hutu majority in Africa in Rwanda and spawned a massacre of Tutsi there in 1994:

Rwandan Genocide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the minority Shiite (Alamite) faction that rules and controls Syria and who compose most of its armies that are now massacring Sunni Muslims like Assad's father massacred 40,000 Sunnis in the 1980s. So this ruling minority is very aware that it will be masscred just like the Tutsis in 1994 if they fail to kill into submission all Sunni Muslims now.

However, this doesn't excuse the massacres of Sunni tribesmen and women and children taking place in Syria now. And unfortunately it is very possible now that we will see a repeat of Rwanda when Assad falls from power and see the Shiites massacred as well. However, what makes this even more dangerous is that Iran likely will send an Army into Syria to prevent this massacre before or while this is taking place which might draw Saudi Arabia and Iraq and Turkey into this insane fight for power and set the whole middle east off like a torch with completely unexpected consequences for everyone. This is one reason why the U.S. and Europe are keeping their distance on Syria because everyone knows something like this happening is very very likely the way things look now.
